The PTE test is much easier than IELTS because of the following reasons:
1. The PTE test is 100% machine scored
Once a test is automated, the chances of errors and mistakes happening during the scoring process are minimized. In the scoring process of the paper IELTS the only section that is machine scored is the reading and listening sections. And that is when they want to count the number of correct and incorrect questions on an answer sheet. In a PTE test, however, none of the parts are scored by a human.
2. No face-to-face interviews in the PTE test
Most students hate a face-to-face test. This is because of the stress involved. In an IELTS speaking test, this stress is even more when you do not have any idea what the topics are going to be covered. What’s more, the candidates need to be spontaneous in their answers as well while paying attention to their grammar and pronunciation at the same time. On the other hand, in a PTE test, the candidates do not have that pressure because they are sitting in front of a computer and not a human being. The topics and types of items are also known and expected.
3. An IELTS test is longer than a PTE exam
A PTE test can be done in as short as 2 hours 45 minutes. An IELTS test, on the other hand, can take up your whole Saturday.
4. PTE score report is more informative than that of IELTS
None of the tests gives you a feedback on where you have gone wrong and where you need to improve. But a PTE score report breaks your score down into six more categories called enabling skills. These items are grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, and written discourse. The scores you get for these items will help you find your strong and weak points and improve for your next test.
