The best way to avoid negative marking in the PTE test is, of course, to avoid answering them.
In the PTE test, there are three sections where candidates will get negative marking for wrong answers. These sections are Multiple choice, choose multiple answers in the Reading module and Multiple choice, choose multiple answers in the Listening module.
Also, in the Listening module there is another section called Highlight Incorrect Words. In this section, you do NOT need to avoid all the HIW questions, but only try to click on the words that you are 100% sure. If you have a little doubt whether to highlight a word or not, avoid highlighting it altogether.
