It depends on what you are going to use it for. There are three possibilities that each will be discussed in this post.
1. University enrolment
It really depends on the university and the level you are applying for, so you need to check with your prospective educational institute before sitting the test. But this is a rough guide as of to date Sep, 2020.
Entry requirement for international students for certificates, diplomas or advanced diploma courses is an overall score of 42-49 (no section score less than 40).
For Bachelor degrees, a PTE overall score of 50-57 (no section score less than 50).
For Graduate certificates and Graduate diplomas one needs to have an overall score of 58-64 (no section score less than 50).
For Masters degrees an overall score of 58-64 (with no section score less than 50).
And for postgraduate research programs an overall score of 58-64 (with no section score less than 50).
2. Temporary transit
If you have finished your study in Australia and you want to apply for a temporary transit (TR) you need to get an overall minimum of 50 with no section score less than 36.
3. Immigration to Australia
An overall 65 in PTE with no score less than 65 will reward you with 10 points for your immigration file. However, if you want to ramp up and get 20 points, you need to get 79 each with no score less than 79. Read more on overall and how it is calculated here.
