Where to put the microphone in the Speaking Section of the PTE Academic Test

The best position of the microphone is NOT to have it right in front of your mouth. This post will discuss the best place for placing the microphone based on actual results.

A lot of candidates, in particular, if they are going to sit the PTE test for the first time, wonder where to put the microphone for an optimal voice recording quality. Naturally, everyone would think that right in front of their mouth would be the ideal place for it, but as we all know when we speak we tend to blow, hiss and cough. This would make a wow effect if the microphone is too close to the mouth.

Therefore, the best microphone position as seen in the photo is to have the microphone above your mouth and parallel to your nose or down close to your chin. This way you would not blow straight at the microphone and neither will your exhalation be caught by it. You may need to speak just a little louder than usual now.
